Screening
Screening for obesity in adults using body mass index (BMI) is recommended, although the result should be interpreted with caution, especially in people with high muscle mass, as it is not a direct measure of central adiposity.[97][98][99][100] BMI should also be interpreted in caution in people aged ≥65 years with comorbidities.[100] BMI results should be interpreted taking into account age, sex, ethnicity, fluid status, and muscularity. An elevated BMI may be used to initiate further evaluation of overweight or obesity.[98]
