Prognosis
Regardless of the aetiology, hyponatraemia is associated with increased length of hospital stay, discharge with a need for a higher level of care, morbidity, and mortality.[2][23][25][58][59] This association appears to be beyond that determined by comorbidities and other measures of severity. It is not certain if interventions to raise sodium levels can change outcomes; however, serum sodium levels can play a role in prognosis and hospital discharge planning.
