Monitoring

Children should have a paediatrician and/or family doctor who can review them annually (or more often, as necessary) in order to coordinate their care, identify the need for additional assessments and support as the child gets older, and refer to other healthcare professionals as necessary. Specifically, children should be monitored for:

  • Developmental disorders, including motor and speech/language

  • Education problems

  • Social skills problems

  • Behavioural and mental health issues

  • Drug and alcohol issues

  • Complications of any congenital anomalies.
