Monitoring
Asthma should continue to be monitored to ensure control with appropriate therapies and non-work environmental control measures in: patients with sensitiser-induced occupational asthma (OA; following diagnosis and removal from relevant sensitiser exposure); and, patients with irritant-induced OA.[22][36] Patients who move to a new work area or new job should also be closely monitored to ensure there is no further work component.
As with patients who have non-occupational asthma, work factors may exacerbate asthma (e.g., dusts, smoke, fumes, cold air, and exertion). Careful monitoring may include serial peak flow readings and a diary of exposures, symptoms, and medication needs. If other exposures worsen asthma, they may need to be modified and drugs may need to be adjusted for asthma control.
