Patient discussions

After successful conservative management, patients may resume normal activities while avoiding inciting activities that place stress on the coccyx. Good upright posture while sitting and use of well-designed and comfortable chairs are important. Obese patients are encouraged to lose weight. Avoiding tight-fitting clothing such as jeans with a constricting seam down the back may be preventive. Surgical patients may resume normal activities after wound healing (about 30 days).

Coccygodynia is an under-recognised and under-treated condition, and many patients suffer for years without proper diagnosis and treatment.
