Primary prevention

There is no evidence to support a preventative strategy. However, treatment of vulval conditions such as dermatoses or dermatitis to improve overall skin condition and function would minimise the risk of ductal occlusion from irritation or inflammation.

Secondary prevention

Treatment of a large asymptomatic cyst may reduce the occurrence of secondary infection and abscess formation, but an abscess can develop without a pre-existing cyst.[2]
