Case history

Case history #1

A 30-year-old woman presents with recurrent abscesses in the axillae. Previously she has been treated with multiple courses of oral antibiotics with some improvement, but the abscesses recur after cessation of treatment. She notes that flares tend to correspond with her menstrual cycle.

Case history #2

A 28-year-old man presents with multiple draining abscesses in the groin and buttock area. He reports a history of severe acne on his face and back treated with multiple courses of antibiotics and isotretinoin. Lesions on his buttocks and groin have been incised and drained multiple times but invariably recur. He is a smoker. He comes for definitive treatment because his occupation requires him to sit for prolonged periods of time.
