Screening

Specific occupations

Laboratory evaluation of susceptibility using motion simulators may be undertaken for military personnel and aircrew. The general population is not screened for motion sickness susceptibility.

The first line of screening is by questionnaire, investigating lifelong experiences of motion sickness weighted against the kinds of vehicles in which the person has travelled.[63]

Although screening can indicate an individual's level of susceptibility to motion sickness, determination of an ability to habituate to motion and retain that habituation is more difficult and lacks agreed, established test procedures.

Screening questions include queasiness while reading in a car (a strong indicator) or a need to sit still on an aircraft during take-off or landing.
