Emerging treatments
Electrochemotherapy
A combination of electroporation and systemic administration of chemotherapeutic agents. May be a treatment option for KS skin lesions. Bleomycin and cisplatin have been successfully tested for this purpose; a systematic review of three studies found that the complete response rate was 65% to 100%, and the overall response rate in all studies was 100%. Electrochemotherapy was well tolerated with mild and transient toxicity.[76]
Ephrin type-B receptor 4-human serum albumin (EphB4-HSA)
A recombinant fusion protein comprising the full-length extracellular domain (soluble) of human receptor tyrosine kinase ephrin type-B receptor 4 (EphB4) combined with full-length human serum albumin (HSA). It has anti-angiogenic properties, and is under investigation for KS.[77]
Nelfinavir
Nelfinavir is a protease inhibitor under investigation for KS.[78]
