Anemia of chronic disease

If the underlying condition responsible for anemia of chronic disease is amenable to treatment and responds, the anemia will typically become milder or will resolve. Failure of the anemia to improve suggests a secondary cause of anemia.

Patients with cancer who receive erythropoiesis-stimulating agents may benefit from improved quality of life and avoidance of blood transfusion.
