Acute tubular necrosis

If recovery of function is complete and a normal glomerular filtration rate is re-established with no evidence of residual renal injury, renal follow-up is not compulsory, although it is advisable. If after ATN, renal function is impaired and the patient is left with acute kidney disease (AKD) or residual chronic kidney disease (CKD), a nephrologist follow-up is highly recommended with interventions based on stage of AKD or CKD.
