Emerging treatments
Second-generation azole antifungals
Voriconazole has poor in vitro activity against Sporothrix schenckii, but has been reported to be efficacious in two patients with lymphocutaneous and osteoarticular sporotrichosis.[51] Posaconazole has good in vitro activity against S schenckii, and has been shown to be active in vivo in a mouse model of sporotrichosis, but there are no clinical in vivo data to support its use in patients with sporotrichosis.[36][52]
Echinocandins
The echinocandins (e.g., caspofungin, micafungin, and anidulafungin) have moderate in vitro activity against S schenckii, but there are no in vivo data to support their use in patients with sporotrichosis.[53]
Cryosurgery
Adjunctive cryotherapy has been reported to be useful in skin lesions refractory to chemotherapy.[54]
