Screening
Due to the high prevalence of ascariasis and other soil-transmitted helminths in many developing regions, screening is recommended in immigrants, international adoptees from these areas, and some returning travelers.
Adoption
Infectious diseases have been found in up to 60% of internationally adopted children. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that stool be examined for ova and parasites as part of a screen for infectious diseases in such children.[24]
Travelers
Asymptomatic travelers returning from long stays (i.e., more than 3-6 months) in endemic regions may be screened for ascariasis and other intestinal parasites, with stool ova and parasite exam.[44]
