Epidemiology

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare disorder, occurring in 1 to 6 per 1,000,000 of the population. It occurs equally in men and women with peak occurrences in the mid-thirties and mid-fifties. PNH is uncommon in the pediatric population. It occurs worldwide without obvious ethnic predisposition and is associated with areas where aplastic anemia is found, such as China and rural Thailand.[1][2]
