Toxic colitis and toxic megacolon

The patient who is surgically treated with a colectomy requires a postoperative visit within 2 to 3 weeks to check the wound. Subsequent follow-up visits are up to the individual surgeon and likely depend on the etiology of the toxic megacolon. Patients who are medically managed require standard follow-up (consistent with the underlying etiology).
