Complications
Irregularities and contour defects can occur if inappropriate fat harvesting and/or the lipofilling injection techniques are used.
Complications are dependent on the target dermal depth.
Superficial-depth peels can cause dryness and mild irritation. Medium-depth peels can lead to milia formation, herpes labialis, postinflammatory hyper- or hypopigmentation, and scarring. Deep-thickness peels can cause depigmentation, hypopigmentation, and scarring. They are associated with postpeel edema and necrosis, and have longer recovery times.[68] Appropriate analgesia, cardiac monitoring, and resuscitation equipment are necessary when undertaking a deep-thickness peel because of the risk of cardiac arrhythmias and laryngeal edema.[69]
Reactivation of herpes simplex virus infection, hyper- or hypopigmentation, and scarring can occur, although these complications are less common if an appropriate technique is used.
Reactivation of herpes simplex virus infection, hyper- or hypopigmentation, and scarring can occur with this procedure.
Facelifts are associated with the risk of scarring, hematoma formation, alopecia, nerve damage, facial asymmetries, and facial nerve palsy.
