Monitoring

If symptoms such as hematuria or bloody diarrhea persist for weeks after treatment, urine or stool samples should be tested for parasite eggs. Re-treatment may be necessary. Alternative diagnoses should also be investigated (e.g., bladder cancer or inflammatory bowel disease) if symptoms persist after re-treatment.

Specific follow-up recommendations for severe complications such as portal hypertension, cor pulmonale, or obstructive uropathy should be made by specialists in the appropriate field.
