Criteria

American Diabetes Association: criteria for the diagnosis of diabetes[1]​​

In the absence of unequivocal hyperglycemia, any of the tests should be confirmed by repeat testing on the same sample or on two separate test samples.

  • Random plasma glucose level ≥200 mg/dL (≥11.1 mmol/L) in the presence of symptoms of hyperglycemia or hyperglycemic crisis; OR

  • Fasting plasma glucose ≥126 mg/dL (≥7.0 mmol/L); OR

  • Plasma glucose level ≥200 mg/dL (≥11.1 mmol/L) 2 hours after 75 g oral glucose; OR

  • HbA1c ≥6.5% (≥48 mmol/mol).
