Obstructive sleep apnea

Parents should also be made aware of conditions that make it more difficult to use continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), such as allergies or allergic rhinitis, which can be managed medically.

Patients and parents should make sure that the CPAP mask fits snugly without an air leak, but not too tightly to the point where skin irritation or breakdown develop. Use of a heated humidifier should be encouraged, and, in some cases, the use of a chinstrap or full face mask is necessary if mouth breathing is present.
