Patient discussions

Patients with minimally symptomatic inguinal hernia should be warned to return to the hospital should the hernia become painful, irreducible and associated with vomiting. Patients should be instructed to avoid straining, heavy lifting, or activities which could exacerbate their condition.

Patients with laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair should be told to convalesce for 1 to 2 days postoperatively.[130]
