Case history
A 2-month-old boy presents with inconsolable crying. The duration of crying is at least 3 to 4 hours a day and has been going on for the past month. During a crying episode, he screams, draws his knees up against his abdomen, and appears to be in great pain. The episodes usually occur late in the day or in the evening. Temperature is normal. The infant is otherwise healthy, and growing and developing normally.
