Monitoring

Symptoms should be reviewed every 3-6 months in order to evaluate the frequency and severity of attacks effectively. Careful consideration of the benefits and/or adverse effects of any pharmaceutical intervention should be undertaken at each clinical review. It is helpful to ask patients to keep a headache diary to assess triggers, headache frequency and characteristics, other symptoms, and drug use (including effectiveness).

Patients should be monitored for mood disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression) and referred for treatment as needed.[66]
