Limb rest and elevation of affected lower extremities may help reduce swelling.
Proper cleaning and covering of all wounds can help prevent cellulitis. Patients with diabetes should pay particular attention to caring for their feet and preventing trauma. Treating tinea pedis (athlete's foot) can help prevent cellulitis. Wearing support stockings and other prescribed measures to reduce lower-extremity swelling can minimize risk of cellulitis. In patients with chronic edema and cellulitis, compression therapy may help reduce recurrence.[64]
