Criteria
Wallace's rule of nines of body surface area (BSA) burn coverage[22]
Adults: head, chest, each arm, and abdomen each represent 9% BSA coverage. Back and each leg represent 2 x 9% of BSA. Perineum represents 1% BSA coverage.
Children: head and back represent 18% BSA coverage each. Each arm represents 9% BSA. Each leg represents 13.5% coverage. Perineum represents 1% BSA coverage.
Lund and Browder classification[22]
Lund and Browder charts evaluate the surface area of the burn on the basis that a patient's palm is approximately 1% of total BSA.
