Prognosis
Lymphedema is a chronic, progressive condition. There is no cure; surgery is at best palliative. Patients who engage with compression can minimize the rate of progression. Successful care is multidisciplinary in nature, requires a long-term, collaborative approach between patient and providers, and includes psychosocial support. Shared decision-making aims to maximize adherence with treatment, which is associated with improved long-term outcomes.[47]
