Primary prevention

Exposure commonly occurs in close community settings such as schools, colleges, nursing homes, or army basic training camps.[4] If a person is symptomatic, consideration should be given to removing that person from the close contact environment to avoid a potential outbreak situation. When Mycoplasma pneumoniae epidemics are encountered in close community settings, prophylactic treatment of exposed personnel with a short course of azithromycin or doxycycline might be considered to help control the epidemic.[28][29]

Secondary prevention

When Mycoplasma pneumoniae epidemics are encountered in scenarios such as military camps, university or school settings, nursing homes, or hospitals, prophylactic treatment of exposed personnel with a short course of azithromycin or doxycycline might be considered to help control the epidemic.[28][29]
