Criteria
Budapest diagnostic criteria, 2004[1][3]
The patient has continuing pain disproportionate to any inciting event.
At least 1 symptom in 3 of the 4 following categories.
Sensory: hyperesthesia and/or allodynia.
Vasomotor: temperature asymmetry and/or skin color changes and/or skin color asymmetry.
Sudomotor/edema: edema and/or sweating changes and/or sweating asymmetry.
Motor/trophic: decreased range of motion and/or motor dysfunction (weakness, tremor, dystonia) and/or trophic changes (hair, nail, skin).
Plus at least 1 sign at time of evaluation in 2 or more of the following categories.
Sensory: hyperalgesia (to pinprick) and/or allodynia (to light touch and/or deep somatic pressure and/or joint movement).
Vasomotor: temperature asymmetry and/or skin color changes and/or asymmetry.
Sudomotor/edema: edema and/or sweating changes and/or sweating asymmetry.
Motor/trophic: decreased range of motion and/or motor dysfunction (weakness, tremor, dystonia) and/or trophic changes (hair, nail, skin).
No other diagnosis to explain the signs and symptoms.
For research purposes there must be at least 1 symptom in all 4 symptom categories, and at least 1 sign in 2 or more sign categories.
