Patient discussions

Patients who have recovered should be advised that there is a good chance that they will continue to do well.

Regulating caffeine intake may help reduce impulse dysregulation.[129]

Patients should be advised that relapses of bulimia nervosa are possible. They should return for care in the event of relapse. When taking histories, it is important to describe the components in terms that the patient understands (e.g., instead of asking the patient whether he or she purges, a term the patient is unlikely to understand, the following questions would be more appropriate: Do you ever vomit or bring food up? Does this happen after you eat? Do you make the food come up? How do you cause the food to come up?). Online patient resources may be helpful.
