Epidemiology
Lifetime prevalence of DSM-5-TR-defined bulimia nervosa by age 20 is 2.6% in women.[9] Higher lifetime prevalence has been found in white women than in black women.[10]
Bulimia nervosa is less common in children and adolescents.[11] One US cross-sectional survey of 10,123 adolescents ages 13 to 18 years estimated prevalence rates to be 0.9%, with mean age of onset 12.5 years.[12]
