Advise the patient to seek assistance to stop drug use if a chronic problem exists, or to decrease the dose of opioid if this is an iatrogenic or unintentional overdose.[20] Harm-reduction counseling could include advice on the use of clean needles or techniques to clean needles, and avoidance of sharing needles. HIV and hepatitis C testing can also be discussed.
