Patient discussions

Counsel patients on the risks of hypogonadism and infertility before starting treatment; offer sperm banking, if appropriate.[2] Discuss options for prosthetic replacement.

Advise patients to adhere to a systematic follow-up regimen of physical exams, blood tests, and appropriate imaging (e.g., computed tomography [CT] scans and chest x-rays). The specific frequency of such follow-up will depend on the extent of disease and the previous treatment given.

Inform patients of the increased risk of developing a tumor in the contralateral testicle, and advise on regular self-exam and clinical follow-up.

Advise patients to report, any significant changes, such as a new lump in the body or a mass in the remaining testicle, to the treating physician immediately.
