Epidemiology
Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common hematologic cancer in high-income countries.[8]
It is estimated that 35,780 new cases of MM and 12,540 associated deaths will occur in the US in 2024.[9] Median age at diagnosis is 69 years.[9]
Incidence of MM in the US is higher among men than women (8.7 vs. 5.9 per 100,000 persons [2017-2021 data]).[9] Incidence is highest among non-Hispanic black people and lowest among non-Hispanic Asian/Pacific Islanders.[9]
