Epidemiology
The incidence of actinomycosis was about 1/300,000 per year in the 1970s.[7] This seems to have decreased, particularly in developed countries, owing to improved dental hygiene and the widespread use of antibiotic treatment.[4][7] There is no predilection for age, race, season, or occupation. However, there seems to be a male-to-female ratio of 3:1.[8]
