Cryptosporidiosis

In immunocompetent patients, no follow-up monitoring or testing is normally required. Cryptosporidiosis is a nationally notifiable disease in the UK, US, and other countries, must be reported to the state health department.

In immunocompromised patients, repeat testing at intervals may help determine whether there has been parasitologic clearance, though this may be difficult to achieve unless immune function is improved. Monitoring for volume depletion, electrolyte imbalance, weight loss, and malnutrition may be required.
