Primary prevention
The only preventable form of acquired torticollis is secondary disease associated with medication use. Dopamine receptor-blocking drugs, such as metoclopramide, antiemetics, and neuroleptics should not be prescribed long term without necessity and appropriate caution.
Secondary prevention
There are no effective means of anticipating or obviating the appearance of idiopathic acquired torticollis.
