Patient discussions

Patients should gradually increase physical activity to regain strength and coordination as tolerated, but if symptoms of heat stroke or stiff muscles occur, they should be advised to seek a cool environment and oral hydration. Extremely hot environments should be avoided. Intravenous hydration and possibly intravenous dantrolene may also be required. Patients with susceptibility to MH are also more likely to have heat stroke.

Patients should notify their physicians and anesthesia providers that they have experienced MH, and obtain a medic-alert bracelet in case they require emergency surgery.[1] The patient can be invited to add his or her personal and family records to a research repository to aid future research into the condition.
