Screening
Food-insecure populations
Among refugees or populations experiencing natural disaster, or in endemic high-risk areas, screening of children ages 6 months and older by checking for pedal edema can identify early cases of kwashiorkor and reduce the need for facility-based treatment. Frequent screening for wasting using mid-upper arm circumference tapes is also important for early identification of other forms of acute malnutrition.
