Monitoring

Children discharged from inpatient care need regular follow-up with continued nutritional support to ensure food security and prevent recurrence. Children who fail to attend follow-up should be actively sought. Ideally, initial follow-up should be weekly for 2 weeks, and then at 1, 3, and 5 months, and every 6 months thereafter. If progress is slower than expected, more frequent monitoring is advised. Ideally, children should be followed up until the age of 5 years. Each follow-up visit should involve weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measurements and a full general examination.
