Criteria

International classification of sleep disorders, 3rd edition, text revision (ICSD-3-TR)[1]​​

All 3 of the following criteria must be met:

  • Insomnia or excessive daytime sleepiness, accompanied by a reduction of total sleep time, associated with transmeridian jet travel across at least 2 time zones.

  • Associated impairment of daytime function, general malaise, or somatic symptoms, such as gastrointestinal disturbance, within 1-2 days after travel.

  • The sleep disturbance is not better explained by another current sleep disorder, medical disorder, mental disorder, or medication/substance use.
