Screening
Although there is no recommended screening for this condition, routine screening for breast cancer may reveal features of fibrocystic breasts. Patients with fibrocystic breast disease as a group should be subjected to early detection of breast cancer by participating in screening programs that are age and risk appropriate. Those with questionable clinical findings or difficult clinical exam should have more frequent breast examination (i.e., at 6-month intervals) and yearly mammography. Yearly MRI of the breast may be appropriate in those who have additional risk factors, such as BRCA mutations or a very strong family history of breast cancer.
