Prognosis
Mastalgia
Cyclic and noncyclic mastalgia run a chronic, relapsing course over the course of years (average duration of pain is 12 years). Approximately two-thirds of patients require repeated cycles of hormonal treatment. A hormonal event such as menopause is most often associated with spontaneous remission of pain. Recurrent or chronic breast pain has little or no effect on daily activities; however, sexual relations seem to be affected most.[15]
Breast cysts
Breast cysts also demonstrate a relapsing course; 26.7% of all cases experience recurrence after a median follow-up of 1 year. Recurrence occurs more frequently in patients with a previous history of cysts and when cysts are bilateral or multiple.[36]
