Anaemia of chronic disease

If the underlying condition responsible for anemia of chronic disease is amenable to treatment and responds, the anaemia will typically become milder or will resolve. Failure of the anaemia to improve suggests a secondary cause of anaemia.

Patients with cancer who receive erythropoiesis-stimulating agents may benefit from improved quality of life and avoidance of blood transfusion.
