Essential thrombocythaemia

Explain to patients that essential thrombocythaemia is a chronic disease with no curative treatment.

Discuss the goals of treatment (i.e., to reduce the risk of thrombosis and bleeding complications, manage symptoms, and reduce the risk of progression).

Emphasise the importance of appropriate follow-up and advise patients to report any thrombotic or bleeding event immediately to their physicians.
