Infantile spasms syndrome is characterised by:

• Flexor, extensor, or mixed spasms

• Developmental plateau or regression (although this may not be apparent at initial presentation)

• Hypsarrhythmia, or multifocal or focal epileptiform discharges on electroencephalogram (EEG).
