Monitoring
During active treatment, patients with TTP must have daily blood counts and LDH to monitor disease response. Once in remission, blood counts should be checked at follow-up appointments. The frequency of these checks varies with time. Initially, these should be checked several times a week, then weekly, and then less often depending on clinical judgement. Doing frequent blood counts allows for baseline values to be monitored and potentially can detect a relapse early when counts start to fall. It is not possible to predict when a patient might relapse, but the highest risk is in the short term.
