Monitoring
Necrotising gingivitis (NG):
Patients with NG generally have poor oral hygiene habits. Therefore, patient motivation should be reinforced frequently. In HIV-infected patients exhibiting delayed tissue healing, intensive professional plaque control may be necessary for prolonged periods of time.
Non-necrotising gingivitis:
Regular clinical re-evaluations by a dentist/dental hygienist are required to preserve gingival health. Maintenance care visits are generally provided at 3- to 6-month intervals, but patients not exhibiting excellent plaque control should be recalled at shorter time intervals.
