Patient discussions

Keep diet simple in the aftermath of diarrhoea, as the intestines may remain sensitive to spicy foods, dairy products (containing lactose), and fatty food for a while after the principal illness has resolved. Occasional loose stools are common after treatment, but no further therapy is required.

Persistent daily diarrhoea with cramping, fever, or blood in the stool requires a medical appointment as soon as possible.
