Osteoporosis prophylaxis

  • Patients receiving medium- to-long-term systemic corticosteroids should be considered for osteoporosis prophylaxis.

Prevention of gastric ulceration

  • Patients taking high-dose oral corticosteroid should be considered for gastro-protection with either an H2-receptor blocker or proton-pump inhibitor.

Prevention of infection

  • Patients receiving long-term immunosuppressant therapies should be considered for immunisation, avoiding live vaccines.
