Early fusion of the anterior portion of the proximal tibial epiphysis can lead to a recurvatum (hyper-extension) deformity at the knee.

This may further result in a high-riding patella (patella alta), thus increasing joint reactive forces at the patellofemoral articulation, and potentially leading to early osteoarthritis of that joint.

May be purely a cosmetic concern or may cause some pain with kneeling onto a prominent tibial tubercle.[1][5]
