Monitoring
Laboratory parameters should be followed up 3, 6, 12, 24, and 36 months after initiation of treatment. Blood values should normalise within weeks after the initiation of treatment. Follow-up gastroscopy and histology of duodenal samples should be performed 6, 12, 24, and 36 months after initiation of treatment. Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS)-positive macrophages will probably persist in some cases.[75] For patients with CNS involvement, follow-up PCR of the CSF should be performed 6 and 36 months after initiation of treatment.
